LIFE EVENTS
Baptisms, Weddings
& Funerals
Faith accompanies us through the moments that shape our lives: welcoming a child, making a lifelong promise, remembering someone we love and taking a new step in our Christian journey.
At St Mary’s Willesden, you are welcome to bring your celebrations, questions and sorrows. Speak to us about a baptism, wedding, funeral, First Communion or Confirmation, and we will help you explore the next step.
Baptisms (Christenings)
Baptism is the beginning of a Christian journey and a joyful welcome into the family of the Church. For a child, it is an opportunity for parents and godparents to give thanks, make promises and pray for the years ahead. Adults are also welcome to enquire about baptism.
If you are considering a christening for your child, or exploring baptism for yourself, please get in touch. We can talk through what the service involves, preparation, godparents and possible dates, and answer any questions you may have.
Weddings
A church wedding brings your promises of love and commitment into a setting of prayer, blessing and celebration. It is a moment to gather those closest to you and begin married life with God at its heart.
If you would like to marry at St Mary’s Willesden, contact us early to discuss your plans. The Vicar can help you explore your connection to the parish, the requirements for marrying here and the preparation for your service. Please speak to us before making firm arrangements.
Unsure whether you live within our parish boundaries? Send us your address and we can help you check. The parish team can also advise if you live outside the parish.
Funerals
A funeral is a time to honour a life, give thanks for the person we have loved and entrust them to God’s care. In the midst of grief, a church service offers space for remembrance, prayer and hope.
Please contact us, or ask your funeral director to get in touch, to discuss a service. We can talk with you about readings, hymns, music and a tribute that reflects the person you are remembering. You are also welcome to approach the clergy for prayer or a conversation when you are grieving.
First Communion & Confirmation
First Holy Communion is an important step in sharing more fully in the worship of the Church. At St Mary’s we run preparation classes for children, helping them grow in their understanding of the Eucharist and their place in the parish community.
Confirmation is an opportunity to affirm the promises of baptism and take a further step in the Christian life. It brings together learning, prayer and a personal commitment to following Christ.
If you or your child would like to prepare for First Communion or Confirmation, speak to the Vicar about the next opportunities. Adults who are exploring faith or returning to church are warmly welcome to ask about preparation too.
Let’s begin with a conversation.
You do not need to have everything planned before you contact us. Tell us a little about your circumstances and what you are hoping for, and we can discuss the next step together.
